i have tried going on there web sites and i have sent the companys e-mails but non of them have sent me any thing back so if u are a tester how did u become one? or is there any site i need to know about? and pleas dont give me ant info of why its not all fun and game.

The closest you’ll get is perhaps Beta testing. Find a game that’s in development, and it’ll probably have beta testers. It’s normally not paid and you’ve got slim chances of getting picked, but it’s worth a shot, no?

Besides, being a real game tester is harder than you think. You don’t just play games. You’ve got to write down every single glitch and oddity that happens while playing.

Please pass on any information / sites / experiences you may have as I’m VERY interested in knowing more about this. Thanks.

A game tester analyzes video games to document software defects that may occur during gameplay. It’s basically a ‘quality control’ job with a difference — You get paid to play games.

Some of the video game tester job options include:
1. Self Employed Video Game Tester
2. Freelance Video Game Tester
3. Full Time Corporate Game Tester

The pay varies based on gaming skills, eye for detail, quality of feedback that you send back to the hiring company, and time spent in testing the latest or soon-to-be-launched games.

I have Googled and all I get are sites wanting me to pay for information. Please help me find a company that is actually hiring.

I have a roommate/cousin that works for a video game company and was previously in QA. He walked me through some of their interesting interviewing techniques, but he mentioned it always a combination of skill and memory. They test your memory with questions like: "what color was the pen you used to sign in with?", "how many steps from the front door to the elevator?", etc. It’d be also nice if you live where most game studios are located such as CA. I don’t believe a valid license or certification will help. I believe the number of video games you’ve beat will be suit you better in your resume. You’re better off looking for applying for QA positions for the game companies in your area. It’s also a timely industry since work is needed as games are in development complete stages. Oh yeah don’t be surprised when they want you to work weekends and 60+ hours.

What kind of games do I get to test?
The kinds of games you can test can vary a whole lot. You will, at times, find different jobs that will and can be for the various game consoles such as Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo Wii, PS3, and of course PC/Computer games. Not to mention that as newer systems are released there will be games that will have to be tested as well. Don’t have all the systems listed, don’t worry. You will also find that you will get more offers for testing the most common systems such as PS3 and Xbox360.

Most of the games you will end up receiving are upcoming games that have not been released yet. It is a great way to beta test various different games and not to mention…most of the time you will get to keep the games! What a great way to save money the same time you are making money. It’s a win-win situation for you.

I’m trying to find a job that has to do with my favorite hobby playing video games. Does anyone have a good site to apply?

First off you’re going to need to apply to tons of beta tests for games that aren’t out yet. If you haven’t done that a few times then they aren’t even going to look at your app. You probably wont’ get accepted to any betas the first few times because they usually pick people they have already worked with or who have experience.

Unfortunately loving games isn’t good enough experience to test them. You might also need to take some CIS classes in college first.

I just don’t have any money to put down to try to make money because I’m unemployed and have been for about 5 months. Please give me good answers and not just some crap answer that doesn’t really answer the question. If there is please let me know…

If you mean to join betas, you will probably want to look here: it’s a free site that informs you of all opened/closed betas in the future.
